About the Macadamia Tree

The macadamia nut tree or macadamia integrifolia is native to Australia, and a still-developing industry internationally. 75% of the macadamia nut weight is oil. Macadamia nuts are one of the more expensive nuts on the market - while delicious, they can be pricey. It takes approximately seven years before a macadamia nut begins to produce nuts, they can be challenging to harvest thanks to their thick, hardy shell and supply is less readily available.

Macadamia nut oil is generally cold-pressed, which protects the integrity of the oil.

Why You Should Use Macadamia Oil

Macadamia nut oil has health advantages both as a skincare oil and edible oil. It contains up to 85% monounsaturated fats, which is higher than olive oil and comes with significant health advantages. Unsaturated fat helps to lower LDL cholesterol (the bad kind), so adding macadamia nut oil can be beneficial to heart health. It also has a high smoke point, making it a popular cooking oil.

Macadamia nut oil is a popular addition to skincare and beauty products. It is a good source of Palmitoleic acid, which helps to reduce signs of premature ageing. It's an Omega-7 fatty acid, which helps to promote the growth of new skin cells, and increases the production of elastin and collagen. People with wounds, burns or scars may find it a useful healing tool. Macadamia nut oil is incredibly moisturising for both hair and skin, but won't clog pores or trick your skin into producing more sebum to counteract the oil.

Macadamia oil is also rich in Oleic acid, an Omega-9 acid that has anti-inflammatory properties.

How to Use Macadamia Oil

Macadamia quickly absorbs into both skin and hair and is gentle enough to use directly on your skin. Use it as a moisturiser, make-up remover or gently rub into sunburnt skin to relieve pain and ease redness. Macadamia oil is one of many powerful natural ingredients in ManukaRx Moisturising Face Cream - use it daily after cleansing to help prevent breakouts and aid the healing of acne scars.

The combination of Mānuka and Macadamia promotes restoration and rejuvenation of the skin, making it a perfect after-sun cream.
